Check the iPad screen for cracks or scratches

If you can’t draw with your Apple Pencil on your iPad, make sure there isn’t anything obscuring the screen. If there is debris on the iPad screen or if fingerprints or oils are smudging the display, it can cause problems with input sensing. This can make it appear as if the iPad isn’t registering your Apple Pencil at all.
