If you’re wondering why your Apple Pay isn’t working, there could be a few different reasons. In this blog post, we’ll go over some of the most common reasons why Apple Pay might not be working for you.

Check if your device is compatible
Apple Pay is available on the iPhone SE (2nd generation), 11, 11 Pro, 11 Pro Max, Xs, Xs Max, XR, X, 8, 8 Plus, 7, and 7 Plus. Apple Pay is also available on the iPad Pro (11-inch), iPad Air (3rd generation), iPad mini (5th generation), and iPod touch (7th generation).

Check if you have the latest iOS update
If you’re using Apple Pay in a store, make sure that you have the latest version of iOS. To check for updates, go to Settings > General > Software Update.
You might also need to update your carrier settings. To do this, make sure that your device is connected to the Internet, then go to Settings > General > About. If an update is available, you’ll see an option to update your carrier settings.
Check if you’re using the apple id
If you’re using an iPhone 6 or later,* the first thing you should check if Apple Pay isn’t working is whether you’re using the right Apple ID. Make sure that the Apple ID you’re using is set up for Apple Pay. If you’re not sure, you can check in Settings on your iPhone:
1. Open Settings and tap [your name].
2. If asked, sign in with your Apple ID password.
3. Tap Wallet & Apple Pay.
4. If you see Add Credit or Debit Card, tap it and enter your card information.*
If you don’t see Wallet & Apple Pay, tap Passbook & Apple Pay and enter your card information.* Learn what to do if you can’t add a card to Wallet.
After you enter your card information, follow the steps to add a new card. When you finish, tap Next. Then review your information and tap Done.*
Check if your card is set up for Apple Pay
If you’re having trouble using Apple Pay, make sure that your card is set up for Apple Pay. You can check if your card is set up by going to Settings > Wallet & Apple Pay. If you see “Add Credit or Debit Card,” tap it.
To add a new card, tap Add Card and follow the instructions on the screen. If you have any issues, contact your bank or financial institution to make sure that they support Apple Pay.
Check if your card is active
Before you use apple pay you need to set it up. If you already have a credit or debit card that’s compatible with Apple Pay, you can add it to your iPhone, iPad, apple watch If you don’t have a compatible card, you can sign up for Apple Pay within certain apps or contact your bank to see if they offer Apple Pay.
To add a card to Apple Pay:
1. Open the Wallet app and tap the plus sign .
2. Use your iPhone camera to enter the card information or manually enter the card number.
3. Follow the instructions on your screen. If asked, add the card that you use for making purchases in iTunes and App Store.
4. When you’re asked to verify your billing address for your credit or debit card, make sure that it’s correct. Then tap Next.
If you can’t add a card to Wallet to use with Apple Pay, check the following:
– Make sure that you’re using an iPhone 6 or later with iOS 11 or later, an iPad Pro, iPad Air 2, iPad mini 3 or later with iOS 11 or later, or an iPod touch 6th generation with iOS 11 or later.
– Find out if your bank offers Apple Pay.
– Verify that your device is signed in to iCloud with your Apple ID and that Find My iPhone is turned on.
– If asked by Wallet during set up, make sure that you allow location services access so Wallet can tell when and where transactions take place using geofencing technology.”
Check if there are any limits
There are a few reasons why your Apple Pay transaction might be declined. Here are some things you can check:
Do you have enough money in your account?
Just like with any other card, you need to make sure you have enough money in your account to cover the purchase. If you’re using a debit card, this means making sure there’s enough money in the account linked to your card. If you’re using a credit card, this means making sure you haven’t reached your credit limit.
Have you reached your daily spending limit?
Depending on your bank, you might have a daily spending limit for contactless payments. This is usually different from the ATM withdrawal limit. If you’ve reached your limit, you’ll need to pay another way or wait until the next day to try again.
Are you trying use apple pay in a country where it’s not available?
Apple Pay is currently available in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Switzerland, Russia, Ukraine, Denmark, Finland, Sweden, Norway, Poland, Belgium and Kazakhstan.
Check if you’re using the right type of card
If you’re trying use apple pay in a store and you can’t, it might be because your bank or issuer needs you to activate Apple Pay first. If you see a message that says “Contact your bank,” make sure that the card you’re trying to use is an eligible debit or credit card from a participating issuer. Then call your bank or issuer and ask them to help you set up Apple Pay. You might need to verify your identity before you can use Apple Pay.
If you’re using Apple Pay in an app, make sure that you’re using the latest version of the app and your device is running the latest version of iOS or iPadOS. You might also need to turn on NFC scanning in your device’s Settings > Privacy > NFC scanning.
