Check if your Apple Pencil is turned on
The first thing you should do if your Apple Pencil isn’t charging is to make sure that it’s turned on. You can do this by checking the led light on the tip of the Pencil. If the light is white, then the Pencil is turned on and ready to use. If the light is orange, then the Pencil is turned off.
To turn on your Apple Pencil, simply unscrew the cap at the back of the Pencil, revealing the lightning connector. Plug the connector into your iPad Pro’s Lightning port and screw the cap back on. The LED light on the tip of the pencil should turn white, indicating that it’s turned on and ready to use.
Once you’ve confirmed that your Apple Pencil is turned on, try charging it again. If it still doesn’t charge, move on to the next solution.
Check if the Nib is inserted correctly
If you’re having trouble charging your Apple Pencil (1st generation), make sure that the Nib is inserted correctly.
To check, remove the Nib by pulling it straight out. If the Nib is inserted correctly, you should see a small metal ring around the plastic base of the Nib. If you don’t see the metal ring, reinsert the Nib and push it firmly into place.
Check the Battery
If your Apple Pencil won’t charge, the first thing you should do is check the battery. Make sure that the Apple Pencil is turned on by pressing and holding the button for a few seconds. Then, check the battery level to see if it needs to be charged.
Once you’ve verified that the battery is low, connect the Apple Pencil to its charging adapter and plug it into a power outlet. If the LED on the charging adapter turns green, that means the Apple Pencil is charging. If it doesn’t, try disconnecting and reconnecting the charging adapter from both the power outlet and Apple Pencil.
Once you’ve verified that the LED on the charging adapter is green, give it a few minutes to charge. If after a few minutes your Apple Pencil still won’t charge, then you may need to replace its battery.
Check if the Connector is Dirty
If you’ve tried all of the above and your Apple Pencil still won’t charge, there might be something blocking the connector. Get a clean, dry, soft-bristled brush, and gently brush the Lightning connector.
If there’s any dirt or debris in the connector, your Apple Pencil might not charge.
Try a Different USB Port
Try plugging your Apple Pencil into a different USB port on your iPad. If you’re using an iPad Pro (11-inch) or iPad Pro 12.9-inch (3rd generation), you can connect your Apple Pencil to the Smart Connector on the side of your iPad.
If your Apple Pencil still doesn’t charge, try using a different charging method:
-If you have an iPad Pro (12.9-inch) (2nd generation) or an iPad Pro (10.5-inch), charge your Apple Pencil by plugging it into the Lightning connector on your iPad.
-If you have an iPad Pro (9.7-inch), charge your Apple Pencil by plugging it into the Lightning connector on your Smart Keyboard or by using the Lightning to USB Cable that came with your device.
Check for Firmware Updates
One reason your Apple Pencil may not be charging is because it’s not running the latest firmware. To check for updates, connect your Pencil to your iPad and open settings app tap general > Software Update. If an update is available, tap Download and Install. Once the update is installed, try charging your Apple Pencil again.
Check the Connector
If your Apple Pencil won’t charge, the first thing you should do is check the Lightning connector for debris. Use a lint-free cloth to clean the connector, and if there’s any buildup, use a cotton swab dipped in isopropyl alcohol toremove it.
Once you’ve cleaned the connector, make sure that there’s nothing blocking it from connecting to your iPad. If you’re using a case, make sure that the case doesn’t have any metal parts that could be blocking the connection.
If your Apple Pencil still won’t charge, try plugging it into a different Lightning port on your iPad. If that doesn’t work, try resetting your iPad. To do this, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least 10 seconds, until you see the Apple logo.
Reset the Apple Pencil
If your Apple Pencil won’t charge, you may need to reset it. To do this, follow these steps:
1. Plug the Apple Pencil into the Lightning connector on your iPad.
2. At the same time, hold down both the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button for three seconds.
3. After three seconds, release both buttons.
4. When you see the Apple logo, release the Sleep/Wake button.
5. The Apple Pencil should now be reset and charging properly.
