Check the Battery
If your Apple Pencil is not working, the first thing you should do is check the battery. If the battery is dead, your Apple Pencil will not work. To check the battery, unscrew the cap at the top of the Apple Pencil and look at the battery indicator. If the battery is low, charge your Apple Pencil for at least 30 minutes. If the battery is completely discharged, it may take up to 2 hours to charge your Apple Pencil.
Make sure that your Apple Pencil is charged.
Your Apple Pencil won’t work if it has a low battery. Check the Battery life indicator in the upper-right corner of the screen to see how much charge your Apple Pencil has. If the indicator shows less than 100%, charge your Apple Pencil.
Try restarting your iPad and Apple Pencil.
If your Apple Pencil isn’t responding or isn’t registering taps, make sure that Bluetooth is turned on and your devices have enough power:
Restart your iPad and Apple Pencil. If you can’t turn off iPad or if the problem continues, might need to reset your device.
Connect your Apple Pencil to the Lightning connector on your iPad and let it charge for a few minutes.
Check the tips of both your Apple Pencil and Lightning connector for dirt, debris, ink or other obstructions.

Update your iPad to the latest version of iOS.
If you’re using an Apple Pencil (1st generation), remove the cap and clip, then charge your pencil for 30 minutes. If you’re using an Apple Pencil (2nd generation), make sure that its magnetic connector is clean and unobstructed.
If you already updated your iPad to iOS 12 and are still having issues, try these troubleshooting steps:
· Restart your iPad: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the slider appears. Drag the slider to turn off your iPad. Once it’s off, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button again until you see the Apple logo.
· Update to the latest version of iOS: Go to Settings > General > Software Update. If an update is available, tap Download and Install.

Clean the Apple Pencil Tip
If your Apple Pencil isn’t working as expected, try cleaning the tip. If you’re using your Apple Pencil with an iPad that has a Home button, you can also try restarting your iPad.
Gently wipe the tip with a clean, dry cloth.
If your Apple Pencil isn’t responding to taps, or performing other functions inconsistently, try cleaning the tip. Gently wipe the tip with a clean, dry cloth. If that doesn’t help, remove the tip and clean the area where the tip attaches to the pencil, then reattach and try again.
Remove any debris from the tip.
If your Apple Pencil doesn’t respond consistently, or if it responded briefly but now doesn’t, remove any debris from the tip.
1. Gently wipe the tip with a soft, lint-free cloth.
2. If there’s debris inside the Lightning connector, use a small, dry, soft-bristled brush to lightly clear it.
3. Remove any objects that might block the tip from seating properly in the Lightning connector on your iPad.
Restart Your iPad
If your Apple Pencil isn’t working, the first thing you should try is restarting your iPad. Sometimes the problem is with your iPad and not the Apple Pencil itself. To restart your iPad, press and hold the power button until the power off slider appears. Drag the slider to turn your iPad off, then press and hold the power button again to turn your iPad back on.
If your iPad doesn’t turn on, follow these steps to see if the issue is with the Sleep/Wake button or the power adapter.
First, make sure that your iPad is plugged into a power outlet using the proper adapter. If it is, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the slider appears. If the issue is with the power adapter, you’ll see a message saying that “This cable or accessory is not certified and may not work reliably with this iPhone.”
If you don’t see the slider, or if your iPad turns on but gets stuck during startup, try these steps. If you still need help, contact apple support
Drag the slider to turn off your iPad.
If your iPad doesn’t respond to your Apple Pencil, make sure that Wacom Feel IT is turned on in the iPad settings.
To do this, go to Settings > General > Multitasking & Dock and turn on Wacom Feel IT.
If your iPad is unresponsive, frozen, or won’t restart, you can force a restart. This is sometimes called a hard reset or power cycling your device.
The steps to force restart your iPad depend on which model you have:
iPad models with Face ID: Press and quickly release the Volume Up button. Press and quickly release the Volume Down button. Then press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the screen goes dark. After the Apple logo appears, release the Sleep/Wake button.
iPad models with Home buttons: Press and hold both the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time. Keep holding them until you see the Apple logo appear on the screen. Then let go of both buttons.
