As of September 12, 2018, Fortnite is not available on Apple’s App Store. Here’s everything we know about why this is the case.

The App Store
Apple’s App Store is the only place to download apps for your iPhone, ipod touch or iPad. The App Store is also the only place to get updates for your apps. But there are some apps that you can’find in the App Store, including Fortnite.
Apple’s commission structure
Apple charges a 30% commission on in-app purchases, which is substantially higher than the industry standard of around 10-15%. This has caused many developers and publishers to shy away from putting their games on the App Store, including Fortnite-epic games
Apple’s App Store guidelines
Apple’s App Store guidelines are designed to keep the store a safe and trustworthy place for users to discover and download apps. We require apps to respect user privacy, ensure security, prevent fraud, and stay up-to-date on the latest malware threats. We also hold app developers accountable to our high standards for design, functionality, and content.
Our App Review team evaluates every app submitted to the App Store to make sure it meets these requirements and our high standards for quality. If an app doesn’t follow our guidelines, we reject it.

Fortnite
Iphone users were surprised and disappointed when they found out that Fortnite was not available in the App Store. This is because Apple and Fortnite’s parent company, Epic Games, are in the middle of a legal dispute. Apple is suing Epic Games for violating its App Store guidelines.
Fortnite’s business model
Fortnite is a free-to-play battle royale game developed and published by Epic Games. It is available on a variety of platforms including Microsoft Windows, macOS, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. The game has been extremely popular since its release in 2017, with over 250 million players as of 2019.
One of the reasons for Fortnite’s popularity is its business model. The game is free to play, but there are optional in-game purchases that can be made. These purchases are known as “microtransactions” and they allow players to buy items such as new character skins, dance moves, and other cosmetic items.
While microtransactions are not necessary to play the game or progress through the story, they do give players the opportunity to show off their personal style. This has led to some criticism of the game, with some people feeling that spending money on microtransactions gives players an unfair advantage.
In September 2020, Fortnite was removed from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store after Epic Games introduced a new payment system that bypassed the 30% cut that Apple and Google take from in-app purchases. This led to a legal battle between Epic Games and Apple, with Epic Games eventually losing its case against Apple. As a result, Fortnite is currently not available on iOS devices.
Fortnite’s use of in-app purchases
Fortnite has been in the news recently for its use of in-app purchases, which has led to some parents spending hundreds of dollars on the game without realizing it. This has caused a lot of controversy, with many people arguing that Fortnite is preying on children and should be banned from all platforms.
However, the truth is that in-app purchases are a feature of almost all mobile games these days, and Fortnite is far from the only offender. In fact, many of the most popular games on the App Store use in-app purchases to make money, including Candy Crush, Clash of Clans, and Pokémon GO.
So why is Fortnite not on Apple? The simple answer is that Apple does not allow games that use in-app purchases on their platform. This means that if you want to play Fortnite, you’ll have to either buy it on another platform (like PC or console) or use an Android device.
The impact of not being on the App Store
Lost revenue
When Fortnite was pulled from the App Store, it lost the ability to generate revenue from in-app purchases. In-app purchases are a key part of the business model for many free-to-play games, and without them, developers are forced to find other ways to generate revenue.
Fortnite is not the only casualty of Apple’s App Store policies. In January, Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney said that the company would no longer support Apple’s platforms because of the “unrealistic restrictions” Apple places on app developers.
Apple requires all apps to use its in-app purchase system, which takes a 30 percent cut of all sales. This policy has come under fire from app developers, who argue that it unfairly puts them at a disadvantage.
The loss of Fortnite is a big blow to Apple, which has been struggling to attract top game developers to its platform. In September,EA announced that it would not bring its popular Battle Royale game Apex Legends to iOS because of Apple’s policies.
Difficulty reaching iOS users
If you’re reading this, you’re probably using an iOS device. You might not know it, but iOS devices (iPhones, iPads, and iPods) make up about 54% of all mobile devices around the world. Android has about 41%. So when a game as popular as Fortnite decides not to launch on the App Store and only launch on Android, that’s a big deal.
The app store is a big money maker for Apple. In 2018, Apple made $11.5 billion from the App Store. That’s a lot of money! So why would a company like Fortnite decide not to use such a popular platform?
There are a few reasons. The first reason is that the App Store takes a 30% cut of all in-app purchases. That means that if someone buys something in Fortnite, Apple takes 30% of that money. For a game like Fortnite that has in-game microtransactions, that can add up to a lot of lost revenue for the company.
The second reason is that Apple has strict guidelines about what can and can’t be in an app on their store. For example, apps can’t have any nudity or violence. They also can’t have any third-party advertising or in-app purchases. While these guidelines make sense from Apple’s perspective (they don’t want to be seen as condoning violence or pornography), it does limit what developers can do with their apps.
The third reason is that it’s simply easier to develop for Android than iOS. Android is an open platform, which means that anyone can develop for it without having to go through a strict approval process like they do with Apple. This makes it easier and faster to get your app out to the public, which is important for time-sensitive games like Fortnite
Negative PR
When Fortnite was first released, it was available on both Apple’s App Store and Google’s Play Store. However, in August 2018, Fortnite’s developer, Epic Games, decided to remove the game from both stores. Instead, Epic Games decided to release the game through its own website.
There are a few reasons why Epic Games may have made this decision. Firstly, by removing the game from the App Store and Play Store, Epic Games avoids having to give a percentage of its revenue to Apple and Google. Secondly, by releasing the game through its own website, Epic Games has more control over how the game is played and how in-game purchases are made.
However, there are also some downsides to this decision. Firstly, it’s much harder for people to find and download the game if it’s not on the App Store or Play Store. Secondly, Epic Games has been facing some negative PR recently after it was revealed that the company had been collecting data from players without their knowledge or consent.
