The Apple Pencil (1st generation) is compatible with the 9.7-inch iPad (6th generation), 10.5-inch iPad Pro, and 12.9-inch iPad Pro (1st and 2nd generations).
iPad mini (5th generation)
The iPad mini (5th generation) is compatible with the first-generation Apple Pencil.
iPad Air (3rd generation)

How to Use the Apple Pencil

Connect the Apple Pencil to your iPad
To use the Apple Pencil, you need to connect it to your iPad. Do this by removing the cap and plugging the Apple Pencil directly into the Lightning connector on your iPad.
You can also connect the Apple Pencil to your iPad using the Smart Connector. The Smart Connector is a magnetic connector that provides power and data connectivity between your iPad and accessories. To connect the Apple Pencil to your iPad using the Smart Connector, place the Apple Pencil on top of your iPad so that the Smart Connector ports on each device line up.
Charge the Apple Pencil
To charge the Apple Pencil, simply attach it to the charging port on the side of the iPad. The Apple Pencil will begin charging automatically and you’ll see a Lightning symbol appear on the LED indicator.
It takes about 15 seconds for the Apple Pencil to charge enough to provide 30 minutes of use, so if you’re in a hurry you can still get some quick sketching done even if it’s not fully charged. A full charge, however, will give you about 12 hours of use.
Pair the Apple Pencil with your iPad
Pairing the Apple Pencil with your iPad is a quick and easy process. Here’s how to do it:
1. Make sure that your iPad is compatible with the Apple Pencil. Currently, the only iPads that are compatible with the Apple Pencil are the 12.9-inch iPad Pro, the 10.5-inch iPad Pro, and the 9.7-inch iPad Pro.
2. Turn on your iPad and unlock it.
3. Connect your Apple Pencil to your iPad using the Lightning connector on the end of the pencil.
4. When you see the Pair button, tap it.
5. Once you’ve paired your Apple Pencil, you start using it to draw, write, or markup documents and photos on your iPad!
