Use a recovery key
If you’ve turned on two-step verification or two-factor authentication for your Apple ID, you can use a recovery key to help you regain access to your account.
A recovery key is a long, randomly generated number that’s used as an alternative way to verify your identity. It’s separate from any password you might use and it isn’t stored on Apple servers or with your account information. When you set up two-step verification or two-factor authentication, you were asked to either select a set of questions or provide a phone number where you could receive temporary verification codes. If you chose questions, and can’t remember the answers, you can use your recovery key to reset them. If you provided a phone number, you can use it to reset your password.
