How to connect your Apple TV to your TV

The Apple TV remote is a sleek, white remote that comes with the Apple TV. It has a Menu button, a Play/Pause button, and a volume control. The remote also has a touchpad that you can use to navigate the Apple TV interface. Here’s how you can connect your Apple TV to your TV.

What you need

To set up your Apple TV, you need:
-An HDTV with an HDMI port
-An Internet connection (broadband recommended)
-A Wireless network (5GHz recommended) or Ethernet network
If you have all of the above, you’re ready to set up your new Apple TV!

How to connect

If you have an Apple TV and want to use it with your TV, you’ll need to connect it to the TV using an HDMI cable. It’s easy to do, and once you’re connected, you’ll be able to use your Apple TV remote to control the TV. Here’s what you need to know.

1. Make sure that your TV is turned on.
2. Connect one end of the HDMI cable to the back of your Apple TV.
3. Connect the other end of the HDMI cable to an available HDMI port on your TV.
4. Turn on your Apple TV by pressing and holding the Menu button on the Apple TV remote until the light on your Apple TV turns white.
5. Use the arrows on the remote to choose a language, then select Done.

Choose your language

The first thing you need to do when you set up your new Apple TV is choose your language. To do this, use the touchpad on the Siri Remote to scroll through the list of languages until you find yours, then click the Touch surface.

If you don’t see your language listed, it’s possible that Apple TV doesn’t support it. Currently, Apple TV supports over 40 languages.

Set up your Wi-Fi network

Use the steps below to connect your Apple TV to your wireless network. These steps also apply to Apple TV models that don’t have a built-in Ethernet port.

Before you begin
Make sure that you have the following:
-Your Wi-Fi password

If you’re not sure of your password, you can find it by looking at the bottom of your wireless router or in the documentation that came with it. If you don’t have access to your router or documentation, contact your Internet service provider or network administrator.
-An Apple TV remote*

If you don’t have an Apple TV remote, you can use your Siri Remote or the Remote app for iPhone, iPad,ipod touch apple watch to set up your Apple TV. You can also use a third-party infrared (IR) remote control with Apple TV models that support IR.*

1. On your TV, open Settings.
2. Select Network. If asked, enter the password for your Wi-Fi network. If you’re not sure of your password, you can find it by looking at the bottom of your wireless router or in the documentation that came with it. If you don’t have access to your router or documentation, contact your Internet service provider or network administrator. Your Apple TV will try to connect to this network and sign in with your Wi-Fi password automatically if required. If it’s unable to connect, make sure that you enter the correct password and try again.

Set up your Apple ID

apple id is the account you use for all Apple services. If you don’t have apple id you can create one.

If you have an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, you can use Sign in with Apple to sign in to apps and websites without having to create a new account. Learn more about Sign in with Apple.

You might be asked to sign in with your Apple ID when you set up apple products and services or make changes to your existing ones. For example, if you download a new app or update a game on your iPhone, you might see a message that says “Signing in to App Store” or “Verifying Updates.”

How to use the Apple TV Remote

The Menu button

The Play/Pause button does exactly what you’d expect: it pauses whatever you’re watching. You can also hold down the button to fast-forward or rewind. If you’re watching a movie or TV show, you can also press the button twice to skip ahead ten seconds or press three times to skip back thirty seconds.

The Volume buttons

The Volume buttons on the Apple TV Remote can be used to adjust the volume of your TV or receiver. To turn the volume up or down, press and hold the Volume Up or Volume Down button.

The Touch surface

The top of your Apple TV Remote is a touch surface. You can use it for a variety of functions, such as:
-Scrolling: Swipe up, down, left, or right on the touch surface to scroll.
-Selecting: Tap once on the touch surface to select an item.
-Activating Siri: Press and hold the touch surface to activate Siri.
-Returning to the Home screen: Press the touch surface to go back to the Home screen.

How to turn Siri on or off

If you don’t want to use Siri, you can turn it off. Just go to Settings > Remotes and Devices > Siri.
