Follow the instructions on the screen to add a new card. If you’re asked to add the card that you use with apple id cards on other devices or in apps, or cards that you’ve recently removed, choose them, then enter the card security code.

You might need to enter the security code that’s printed on your credit or debit card. Then follow the steps to add a new card.
When you add a card, Apple Pay assigns a unique Device Account Number to your device. This number is encrypted and stored in a Secure Element chip on your device. Your actual credit or debit card numbers are never stored on your device or shared with merchants.
