To request money, open a message thread and tap on the “i” icon. Select “Apple Pay,” then tap on “Request.” You’ll be prompted to enter the amount you’d like to request, then given the option to add a memo. Confirm with Face ID or Touch ID, then send your request off.

The recipient will get a notification that they’ve received a request for money and can either tap to pay immediately through Apple Pay or choose to pay later. Either way, they’ll have three days to pay before the request expires.

If you’re ever unsure about whether or not someone has paid you back for something, you can always check your transaction history by tapping on the Apple Pay icon in Settings -> Wallet & Apple Pay -> Transaction History.
