Introduction

Apple’s new AirTag accessory is a small, inexpensive way to keep track of your belongings. If you lose your keys, for example, you can attach an AirTag to them and use Apple’s Find My app to locate them. In this article, we’ll show you how to use AirTag to find your lost items.

What is Apple AirTag?

Apple AirTag is a small, round, disk-like device that can be attached to any number of personal items—keys, wallets, backpacks, purses—so you can track them using Apple’s “Find My” network of iPhones, iPads, and Macs. If an item goes missing, you can put it in “lost mode,” which will send out notifications to every iPhone owner in range (approximately 200 feet), thereby increasing the chances that your lost property will be found and returned to you.

If you’re an iPhone owner and you haven’t already invested in some sort of tag tracking system like Tile or Chipolo, AirTag is definitely worth considering—especially now that iOS 14.5 has made it much easier to use. Here’s everything you need to know about how AirTag works and how to set it up.

How to Use Apple AirTag?

Apple’s AirTag is a small, circular device that you can attach to items like your keys or wallet, and then use the Find My app to keep track of them. If you lose your keys, for example, you can open the Find My app and see where they are. AirTag works with the iPhone 11 and later, the iPad Pro (11-inch and 12.9-inch, 3rd generation), the iPad Air (3rd generation), and ipod touch (7th generation).

Attach AirTag to your Item

AirTag is designed to be attached to and kept with your important items like keys, wallets, backpacks, and luggage so you can find them when they’re lost.

There are many ways to attach AirTage to an item:
-If you’re attaching it to something made of metal, like a key ring, use the built-in key ring hole.
-To attach AirTag to a leather good, like a wallet or purse, you can use the included leather loop. Just feed the loop through itself and pull tight.
-For attaching AirTag to something like a backpack or duffle bag, you can use the included looped adhesive strip. Just peel off the backing and stick it on.

You can also purchase third-party accessories for attaching AirTag to other items, like a pet collar or a bike helmet. No matter how you choose to attach AirTag, make sure it’s securely attached so it doesn’t get lost itself!

Set up AirTag

If you lose an item equipped with an AirTag, anyone who finds it can bring it to any Apple store, iPhone in tow, and a Genius will help reunite you with your lost property—no questions asked. The same goes for AirPods. If you lose an AirPod and someone finds it, they can go to an Apple store and have a Genius scan the finder’s iPhone to see if it belongs to you.

To get started, open the Find My app on your iPhone and tap the Items tab. Then tap Add Item and choose AirTag from the list of options. You’ll be prompted to put your AirTag into Sleep mode by holding it next to your iPhone. Once it’s in Sleep mode, a message will appear asking if you want to assign the AirTag to a person in your contacts or as a general item.

Find Your Item

If you lose an item that has an AirTag attached to it, you can use the Find My app on your iPhone to find it. Here’s how:

1. Open the Find My app on your iPhone.

2. Tap Items at the bottom of the screen.

3. Select the item that you want to find.

4. Tap Actions > Play Sound if you want the AirTag to play a sound so you can locate it nearby. Or tap Actions > Notify When Found if you want to be notified when the item is located.
