Check for watchOS updates

On your iPhone, open watch app Tap General > Software Update.

If an update is available, you’ll see an option to download and install it.

If you need more space for an update, you can delete content from your watch manually before you update.

Install the update

On your iPhone, open the Apple Watch app.

Tap My Watch, then tap General > Software Update.

Tap Download and Install, then follow the onscreen instructions.

If you need more space for a wireless update, you can update using your computer or delete content manually from your device.

Verify the update

Before you update, use these steps to make sure that your Apple Watch has enough space for the update, and that your iPhone is on Wi-Fi and has enough battery power.

You might need to free up space on your Apple Watch or iPhone before you can update.

On your Apple Watch, open the Settings app, then tap General > Usage > Software Update.

Plug your device into power and connect to the Internet with Wi-Fi.
Tap Settings > General > Software Update.
Tap Download and Install. If a message asks to temporarily remove apps because iOS needs more space for the update, tap Continue or Cancel.
Later, iOS will reinstall apps that it removed. If you tap Cancel, learn what to do next.
To update now, tap Install. Or you can tap Later and choose Install Tonight or Remind Me Later. If you tap Install Tonight, just plug your iOS device into power before you go to sleep. Your device will update automatically overnight.
If asked, enter your passcode.

Install the update

Make sure your Apple Watch is connected to its charger and has at least 50% battery power.

To install the update later, tap Install Tonight or Remind Me Later. If you tap Install Tonight, connect your device to a power charger before you go to sleep.
Your device will update automatically overnight.

Check for app updates

If you have automatic updates turned on, your apps will update automatically. But you can also update apps manually.

To turn on automatic updates, open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone and tap My Watch. Tap General > Software Update. Turn on Automatic Updates.

To update apps manually, open the App Store on your Apple Watch. Scroll to the bottom of the Featured section and tap Updates. If an update is available, tap UPDATE next to the app.

Install the update

1. On your iPhone, open the Apple Watch app.
2. Tap the watch tab then tap General > Software Update.
3. Download the update.
4. Tap Install. If prompted, enter your passcode.
5. Wait for the update to install, then tap Restart to restart your Apple Watch if it doesn’t restart automatically after the update installs.

Verify the update

After you download the update file, open it and verify that the update is from Apple.

1. On your iPhone, open the Apple Watch app, then tap General > About.
2. Look for the version number below Software Version. The new version number start with 18, followed by a period.
