If you’re upgrading from an old iPhone to a new one, you’ll need to unpair your Apple Watch from your old phone before you pair it with your new one. Here’s how!

If you’re using an Apple Watch with an iPhone 6s or earlier, you’ll need to put your watch into Airplane mode before you begin. This will prevent any inadvertent communication with your old phone while you’re unpairing.

To do this, open the Settings app on your watch and tap Airplane Mode. Then, follow these instructions:

1. On your iPhone, open the Watch app.
2. Tap the My Watch tab and then tap General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings.
3. Enter your Apple ID password when prompted and tap Erase All Content and Settings.
4. Once the reset is complete, your Apple Watch will restart and be ready to pair with a new iPhone.

Tap Erase All to confirm.

If you don’t have your old iPhone or can’t turn off Activation Lock, you can erase your Apple Watch. When you erase your device, all of your information (including credit, debit, or prepaid cards for Apple Pay) is deleted from the device, and you won’t be able to find it using the Find My app or Find iPhone on iCloud.com.

1. Open the Watch app on your new iPhone.
2. Tap the My Watch tab, then tapGeneral > Erase All Content and Settings.
3. If asked for a passcode, enter it.
4. Tap Erase All to confirm.
