How to Sync Your Remote to Apple TV

Follow these simple steps to sync your remote to your Apple TV. If you have an iPhone, iPad, ipod touch with iOS 7 or later, you can use it as a remote.

Open the Apple TV app on your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Mac.

Open the Apple TV app on your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Mac.
Go to Settings > Remotes and Devices > Remote App and Devices.
If you don’t see your Apple TV, make sure that your iOS device or Mac is on the same Wi-Fi network as your Apple TV. If you’re using an Ethernet network, make sure that your router is configured correctly.
On your iOS device or Mac, select your Apple TV. If asked, enter the four-digit code that appears on your Apple TV.
On your iOS device or Mac, select Continue. On your Apple TV, select Allow Access.

Go to Settings > Remotes and Devices > Remote App and Devices.

If you have more than one Apple TV in your home, you can use the same remote with all of them. Just make sure that your remote is synced to the Apple TV that you want to use it with. You can sync your remote to Apple TV in a few different ways:

– Use the Remote App on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
– Go to Settings > Remotes and Devices > Remote App and Devices
– Sync your remote using a Lightning to USB cable

Select your Apple TV.

On your iOS device, open the Remote app, then select your Apple TV.

If you can’t find your Apple TV, make sure that it’s turned on and that your iOS device is connected to the same Wi-Fi network.

If asked, enter apple id and password.

If you see a message that says “Apple ID Verification,” “Password Required,” or something similar, enter apple id password If you’re signed in with your apple id you might be prompted to sign in again.

On some older models of Apple TV, you might need to enter a verification code. If so, open settings app on your iOS device, then go to [your name] > Password & Security and get the code.

Select the activities you want to control on your Apple TV.

Before you begin, make sure that your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch is on the same Wi-Fi network as your Apple TV or AirPlay 2-compatible smart TV.

Open the Home app and tap , then tap Add Accessory. If you don’t see , tap and then Add Accessory.

Point your iOS device at the accessory you want to add and wait for a signal.

Tap Allow Access when prompted, then select the room where you’ll use the accessory. To control your accessory when you’re away from home, turn on Allow Access When Away.

To turn on automatic syncing, go to Settings > Remotes and Devices > Remote App and Devices > Automatically Sync Remote.

On your Apple TV 4K or Apple TV HD, go to Settings > Remotes and Devices > Remote App and Devices. Select your remote from the list. If you don’t see your remote, make sure that your Apple TV is powered on and that you’within 30 feet (9 meters) of it. If you still don’t see your remote, try resetting it.

Tap Set Up new Remote. If you don’t see Set Up new Remote, it might mean that automatic syncing is turned on. To turn off automatic syncing, go to Settings > Remotes and Devices > Remote App and Devices > Automatically Sync Remote.

When asked, choose a language on your Apple TV. Then follow the onscreen instructions to finish setting up your remote.
