How to Set Up Your Apple Pencil

If you’re new to apple pencil here’s a complete guide on how to get started, including how to charge it and pair it with your iPad.

Open the box

The Apple Pencil comes in a small, white box. If you bought it from the Apple Store, it might come in a larger box with apple products

On the front of the box, you’ll see a photo of the Apple Pencil and the words “Apple Pencil.” On the back of the box, you’ll see these words:

“Apple Pencil sets new standards for how drawing, note-taking, and marking up documents should feel — intuitive, precise, and magical.”

Take out the Apple Pencil

Open the Apple Pencil case. The Apple Pencil will be inside, with the tip pointing up. Hold the pencil near the iPad Pro and wait for the connection prompt to appear. If you don’t see the connection prompt, make sure that Bluetooth is turned on.

Tap Connect, then tap Continue.

If you’re using an iPad (7th generation), iPad Air (3rd generation), or iPad mini (5th generation), you can pair your devices start using your Apple Pencil right away. After you pair your devices, you can still use fast charging to charge your Apple Pencil quickly.

Remove the cap

To start, remove the cap from your Apple Pencil. You can store the cap on the back of the pencil when you’re not using it.

Next, attach the Lightning adapter to the end of your Apple Pencil.

Now you can charge your Apple Pencil by plugging it into the Lightning connector on your iPad. charging Your Apple Pencil (2nd generation) with iPad Pro To check the charge level of your Apple Pencil (2nd generation), do either of the following:
-Look under Settings > Battery on your iPad.
-Tap and hold the flat edge of your Apple Pencil on your iPad for a few seconds, then swipe up from the bottom of your screen to open Control Center. The charge level appears next to Battery in Control Center.

Plug the Apple Pencil into the Lightning connector on your iPad

1. Plug the Apple Pencil into the Lightning connector on your iPad.
2. The iPad will automatically pair with the Apple Pencil and you’ll see the Pair button next to the Apple Pencil name in Settings.
3. Tap the Pair button .
4. After you pair your Apple Pencil, it will stay paired until you restart your iPad, turn off Bluetooth, or pair with another iPad.

Wait for the Apple Pencil to pair with your iPad

Heres what you need to do to set up your Apple Pencil:

1. Turn on your iPad.
2. Plug in your Apple Pencil to the Lightning connector on your iPad and wait for the Apple Pencil to pair with your iPad.
3. Tap Continue when asked if you want to use your Apple Pencil with this iPad.
4. Make sure that Bluetooth is turned on, then tap Set Up Later in Settings.
5. Tap Done.

Unplug the Apple Pencil

To set up your Apple Pencil, unplug it from the Lightning connector on your iPad. If you’re using an iPad Pro (11-inch) or iPad Pro 12.9-inch (3rd generation), you can magnetically attach and charge your Apple Pencil to the side of your iPad Pro.

Attach the cap

The next step is to attach the cap to your Apple Pencil. The cap is important because it protects the tip of your Pencil and also keeps the tip from drying out when you’re not using it. To attach the cap, simply push it onto the end of your Pencil until it clicks into place.

Use the Apple Pencil

To use your Apple Pencil, remove the cap and plug it into the Lightning connector on your iPad. If you have an iPad Pro (11-inch) or iPad Pro (12.9-inch) (3rd generation), you can attach your Apple Pencil directly to the magnetic connector on the side of your iPad.

If you have an iPad Pro (11-inch) or iPad Pro (12.9-inch) (3rd generation), you can also charge your Apple Pencil by attaching it to the magnetic connector on the side of your iPad.

When you see the Pair button, tap it.
