Apple provides a number of ways to control your Apple TV with a remote, and not just the traditional physical remote that comes with the device. You can also use your iPhone or iPad as a remote, or even control it with your voice via Siri.
If you want to use a physical remote to control your Apple TV, there are a few different ways to do it depending on which model of Apple TV you have. If you have an Apple TV 4K or an Apple TV HD, you’ll need to use the new Apple TV Remote that came with your device. This remote has a touchpad on one side and physical buttons on the other, and it’s designed to be used with the new tvOS interface.
To pair your new remote with your Apple TV, just make sure that your Apple TV is plugged in and powered on, then point your remote at it and hold down the Menu and Volume Up buttons simultaneously for about 5 seconds. You should see a white light flash on the front of your Apple TV when the pairing is successful.
If you have an older model of Apple TV, you can use either the old Apple Remote that came with your device or the new Siri Remote. To pair either of these remotes with your Apple TV, just make sure that your Apple TV is plugged in and powered on, then hold down the Menu and Play/Pause buttons simultaneously for about 5 seconds. You should see a white light flash on the front of your Apple TV― when the pairing is successful.
If you have an Apple TV (2nd or 3rd generation), you can use your Siri Remote or Apple TV Remote to control volume. Just hold down the Command key on your remote while you press the Volume Up or Volume Down button.
If you have an older Apple TV, you’ll need to use the iTunes volume controls:
-Open iTunes and go to Preferences > Playback.
-Select “Play audio using: Internal speakers.”
-Close Preferences and begin playing a video.
-Use the iTunes volume control to adjust the volume on your Apple TV.
If you see a four-digit code appear on your Apple TV, enter it on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.
The first thing you’ll want to do is put your Apple TV remote in discovery mode by holding down the Play/Pause and Menu buttons at the same time until the four-digit code appears on the television screen.
Once you see the code, open the Remote app on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch and select Add a Device. If you don’t see Add a Device, it’s because your iOS device already recognizes your Apple TV remote.
On the next screen, select your Apple TV from the list of devices and enter the four-digit code. Once entered, you should see the message “Your Apple TV remote is ready to use.” If you don’t see this message, make sure that you’ve entered the code correctly.
