What is pinging?
Pinging is a term that refers to the process of sending a signal to a specific device on a network in order to determine if it is working properly. The word “ping” actually comes from the sound that is made when this signal is sent. When you ping an iPhone from apple watch you are sending a signal to the iPhone in order to see if it is working properly.
How to ping your iPhone from your Apple Watch
You can ping your iPhone from apple watch if you need to find it when it’s lost. This feature is helpful if you can’t find your iPhone, and you think it might be in the house somewhere. Pinging your iPhone from your Apple Watch will make it emit a sound so you can find it. Here’s how to do it.
Prerequisites
This feature requires watchOS 6.1 or later and iOS 13.1 or later. If you don’t have the latest versions of software, you can update your Apple Watch and iPhone.
To use the Ping feature, your iPhone and Apple Watch need to be connected over Wi-Fi or cellular. Also, both devices need to be in range of each other—for example, in the same room or building.
Set up Find My iPhone
If you lose your iPhone, iPad,ipod touch or Mac, the Find My iPhone app will let you use any iOS device to find it and protect your data. When you turn on Find My iPhone on your device, you can also turn on Activation Lock so that someone else can’t use your device if they don’t have apple id or password.
You need to set up Find My iPhone to use it:
-Open the Settings app on your iOS device.
-Tap iCloud.
-Turn on Find My iPhone.

Use the Find People app
If you’re looking for a specific person, the Find People app is the best way to ping an iPhone from your Watch. To use it, open the app and select the person you want to ping. You’ll see three options: message, call, and ping. Select ping, and your iPhone start making a noise so you can find it.
How to use the Find My iPhone app
Open the Find My iPhone app. Tap the Devices button at the bottom of the screen. Select your Apple Watch from the list of devices. If your watch isn’t listed, make sure that it’s turned on and in range of your iPhone. If it is, but you still don’t see it, tap the action button , then tap Add Device.
Prerequisites
Before you can locate your iPhone from your Apple Watch, there are a few things you need to do first:
-Make sure that Location Services is turned on for your iPhone. You can do this by going to Settings > Privacy > Location Services.
-Make sure that Find My iPhone is turned on for your iPhone. You can do this by going to Settings > iCloud > Find My iPhone.
-Make sure that your iPhone and your Apple Watch are connected to the same Wi-Fi network or cellular network.
-If you’re using an Apple Watch with GPS, make sure that it has a good connection to GPS satellites. You can check this by opening the Maps app on your watch and seeing if your current location is shown accurately.
Set up Find My iPhone
Before you can use Find My iPhone to locate your device, you need to turn on Find My iPhone on the device. You can also turn on Location Services to improve location accuracy.
Open the Settings app, then tap Privacy > Location Services > ON.
Open the Settings app, then tap iCloud > Find My iPhone. Turn on Find My iPhone and Send Last Location.
Use the Find People app
If you have an Apple Watch and an iPhone, you can use the Find People app to find and ping your iPhone from your watch. The Find People app is available on watchOS 6 and later.
To use the Find People app, you need to have the Find People app installed on your iPhone and be signed in with apple id You also need to turn on location services for the Find People app on your iPhone.
If you don’t have the Find People app installed on your iPhone, you can download it from the App Store.
1. On your Apple Watch, open the Find People app.
2. Tap a contact, then tap their name at the top of the screen.
3. Turn on Send & Receive Location.
4. Tap Allow whenever prompted to do so on your iPhone or iPad.
