Using Apple Pay Online

When you’re shopping online in Safari on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac, you can use Apple Pay to check out.

To pay with Apple Pay online, you need an iPhone 6 or later, an iPad Pro, iPad Air 2 or later, iPad mini 3 or later, or a Mac introduced in 2012 or later that has Touch ID.

If you’re using an iPhone and have a credit or debit card in Wallet that’s set up for Apple Pay, double-click the side button*, then hold the top of your iPhone near the contactless reader. A subtle vibration and beep let you know that your payment information was successfully sent.

On an iPad with Face ID*, double-click the top button to confirm the payment. On an iPad with Touch ID*, place your finger on Touch ID. You might need to sign a receipt or enter your PIN.

When you pay with Apple Pay using your default credit or debit card, a unique Device Account Number is created specifically for that device and used to process the transaction. So when you pay in stores or online using Apple Pay, your card number is never shared by Apple with merchants. And when you use Apple Pay within apps and websites on iOS devices that have Touch ID enabled, your device account number along with a transaction-specific dynamic security code is used to process payments so your card details are never shared by Apple with merchants. On devices without Touch ID where passcodes are required for each purchase (iPhones without Touch ID and iPads), Face ID devices double-click to complete purchases made in apps and on websites via Safari; passcode must be entered for purchases made within Safari if Face ID isn’t available due to low battery level
