How to Pair Your Apple Pencil with Your iPad

Follow these simple steps to get apple pencil up and running with your iPad.

Open settings app on your iPad.

Open settings app on your iPad. Tap Bluetooth. The Bluetooth status shows as Not Connected until you pairing your Apple Pencil with your iPad.

Tap info button next to Apple Pencil.

Tap Pair.

After you pair your Apple Pencil, it stays paired until you restart your iPad, turn off Bluetooth, or unpair manually.

Tap Bluetooth.

On your iPad, go to Settings > Bluetooth and make sure that Bluetooth is turned on.

Then, hold down the button on your Apple Pencil for about a second. After a few seconds, you should see the name of your Apple Pencil appear in the Devices list. Tap it to pair it with your iPad.

Look for your Apple Pencil’s name under Other Devices.

If you can’find your Apple Pencil’s name under My Devices, make sure that Bluetooth is on, then look for its name under Other Devices.

Open settings app on your iPad.
Tap Bluetooth.

If you don’t see “My Devices” or “Other Devices,” tap , then tap Edit.

If you still don’t see “My Devices” or “Other Devices,” make sure that Bluetooth is turned on. To turn on Bluetooth, open Control Center and tap .

Tap info button next to your Apple Pencil’s name.

If you can’t find your Apple Pencil, make sure that Bluetooth is on for your iPad. Then tap the info button next to your Apple Pencil’s name. If you’re asked to enter a code, enter 0000.

After you pair your Apple Pencil, it will stay paired until you restart your iPad, turn on Airplane Mode, or pair with another iPad.

Tap the name of your Apple Pencil, then tap Forget This Device.

If you forgot your Apple Pencil, you can unpair it from your iPad and then pair it again. Here’s how:

1. Tap the name of your Apple Pencil, then tap Forget This Device.
2. Place your Apple Pencil on the charging sleeve and make sure that there’s no damage to the Lightning connector or the sleeve.
3. Plug in your iPad using the Lightning connector that came with your device.
4. When the pairing process begins, tap Continue on your iPad, then follow the instructions on the screen.

Press and hold the button on your Apple Pencil for two seconds.

When you see the white glow, that means your Pencil is in pairing mode and is ready to connect.

Open the Bluetooth settings on your iPad.

Tap the name of your Apple Pencil when it appears under Devices.

Now that your Apple Pencil is paired, it will show up in the My Devices section of your Bluetooth settings.

When you see the Pair button, tap it.

If you don’t see the Pair button, make sure that your Apple Pencil is charged. To charge your Apple Pencil, attach it to the Lightning connector on your iPad. When you see the Pair button, tap it.
