How to Pair an Apple TV Remote

Open settings app on your ‌iPhone‌, ‌iPad‌, or ‌iPod touch‌ with your ‌Apple TV‌ remote in hand.

Under Devices, if you see “Apple TV Remote,” tap it and then tap Forget This Device. If you don’t see “Apple TV Remote” listed, make sure that your ‌iPhone‌, ‌iPad‌, or ‌iPod touch‌ is within 3 feet (0.9 meters) of your ‌Apple TV‌. Tap Done.

Open apple tv remote app on your iOS device, and choose your ‌Apple TV‌. If asked, enter the 4-digit code that appears on your ‌Apple TV‌.

Tap Remotes and Devices.

If you’re using apple tv 4K apple tv hd you can use your Touch surface to interact with your apps and with some aspects of the tvOS interface. Or, if you prefer, you can pair a Bluetooth keyboard with your device and use it to enter text.

To turn on Touch, go to Settings > General > Accessibility > VoiceOver > Touch. When Touch is on, a white dot appears where your finger touches the screen. You can also use three fingers to drag, four fingers to swipe up or down, or five fingers to pinch.

Tap Remote.

1. From the home screen on your device, tap Settings.
2. Select Remote from the menu.
3. Tap Pair Remote.
4. A 4-digit code will appear on your screen.
5. Enter the 4-digit code on your remote and press the Play/Pause button.

Tap the info button next to the remote that you want to pair.

Tap the info button next to the remote that you want to pair. If you don’t see an info button, your remote is already paired. You can have up to 8 Apple TV remotes paired to your Apple TV at a time.

On the Remote Settings screen, tap “Pair new remote.”

Point your remote at your Apple TV.

When prompted, hold down the Menu and Volume Up buttons for 5 seconds. Or if you have an aluminum Apple Remote, just hold down the Menu and Plus buttons.

On your Apple TV, you should see a four-digit code appear. Enter this code on your remote.

If you’re having trouble pairing your remote or you see a message that says “Accessory not supported,” make sure that your software is up to date.

Tap Forget This Remote.

If you want to unpair a remote from your Apple TV, you can do so by going to the Settings app, then selecting Remotes and Devices. From there, find the remote that you want to unpair in the list of connected devices, then tap on it. On the following screen, tap on Forget This Remote.

Put your ‌Apple TV‌ remote in pairing mode by holding down the Menu and Volume Up buttons for five seconds. If you’re using an ‌Apple TV‌ (3rd generation), you can also hold down the Play/Pause button.

On your iOS device, go to Settings > Remotes and Devices > Remote App and Devices. If you don’t see Remote App and Devices, check that your software is up to date by going to Settings > General > Software Update.

Tap Add a Remote.

Point your iOS device at your ‌Apple TV‌ or receiver and hold it near the top of your device. A four-digit code will appear on your ‌Apple TV‌ or receiver.

Enter this code on your iOS device.

Tap the remote that you want to pair.

On your Apple TV 4K or Apple TV HD, go to Settings > Remotes and Devices > Remote App and Devices. If you don’t see Remote App and Devices, go to Settings > Remotes and Devices.

If you have an older apple TV, go to Settings > General > Remotes.

Tap the remote that you want to pair. If you don’t see your remote listed, make sure that your Apple TV is connected to the Internet.
