How to Make Hot Apple Cider

This hot apple cider recipe is the perfect fall drink! Made with fresh apples, cinnamon, and cloves, this spiced cider will keep you warm all season long.

Gather your ingredients

To make hot apple cider, you’ll need:

– 1 gallon (4 L) of apple cider
– 1 cup (228 g) of sugar
– 1 teaspoon (5 ml) of ground cinnamon
– 1/2 teaspoon (2.5 ml) of ground cloves
– 1/4 teaspoon (1.25 ml) of allspice

– 1/2 cup (118 ml) of lemon juice

Cut the apples

Cut the apples into small pieces, about 1-inch cubes. You don’t need to peel or remove the seeds, as these will be strained out later. Add the cut apples to a large pot or slow cooker.

Cook the apples

Cook the apples: This step is completely optional, but if you want your cider to be extra smooth, cook the apples before blending them. Simply quarter the apples and cook them in a large pot with a little water until they’re soft. This will take about 15 minutes.

If you don’t want to cook the apples, you can skip this step and blend the raw apples instead. The cider will have a slightly different flavor, but it will still be delicious!

Add the spices

In a small cheesecloth bag or tea ball, add the following spices:
-2 cinnamon sticks
-1 teaspoon allspice berries
-1 teaspoon whole cloves
-1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
Tie the cheesecloth bag closed and set it aside.
