-2 cups of all-purpose flour
-1 tablespoon baking powder
-1 teaspoon salt
-1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, at room temperature
-1 1/2 cups sugar, divided
-2 large eggs, beaten
-1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
-3 tablespoons milk
Filling:
-6 to 7 cups apples, peeled and thinly sliced (about 6 large apples)
-2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice
-1/4 cup light brown sugar, packed
-1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Optional Topping:
-Vanilla ice cream or freshly whipped cream

Tools

In order to make the perfect apple cobbler, you will need the following tools:
-A baking dish: You can use any size or type of baking dish for your cobbler, but a deeper dish will give you more room for layering the apples and topping. If you are using a glass dish, be sure to lower the oven temperature by 25 degrees.
-A paring knife: This is the best tool for peeling and slicing apples.
-A cutting board: This is a surface on which to cut your apples.
-A spoon: You will need this for stirring and serving.
-A measuring cup: This is for measuring the ingredients.
-An optional pie crust: If you want a flakier crust, you can roll out a store-bought or homemade pie crust and place it over the top of your cobbler before baking.

Instructions

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Peel, core and slice apples. Mix sugar, flour, salt, spices and pour over apples. Dot with butter. Place in a 9×13 inch baking dish.

For the topping, mix together flour, sugar, salt and butter. Stir in milk until mixture forms clumps. Sprinkle over the top of the apples.

Bake for 45 minutes or until topping is golden brown and apples are bubbly.
