Add your credit or debit cards

You can add your credit, debit, and prepaid cards to Apple Pay so you can use them at millions of stores, in apps, and on websites worldwide.

To add a card on your iPhone:
1. Open the Wallet app and tap the “+” sign.
2. Use your iPhone’s camera to enter your card information or type it manually.
3. Tap “Next.” Your bank or card issuer verifies your information and decides if you can use your card with Apple Pay.
4. If you’re asked to, enter the security code that’s printed on your credit or debit card. Then tap “Next.”
5. If your bank or issuer needs more information to verify your card, they’ll ask for it here.

On your iPad:
1. Go to Settings > Wallet & Apple Pay.
2. Tap Add Card.
3. Use your iPad’s camera to enter your card information or type it manually.
4. Tap “Next.” Your bank or card issuer verifies your information and decides if you can use your card with Apple Pay.
5 . If you’re asked to, enter the security code that’s printed on your credit or debit card.(If you’re asked for a verification code for a prepaid card that doesn’t have one, contact the prepaid card issuer.) Then tap “Next.”

Using Apple Pay

To pay in stores

Open the Wallet app and tap . Select the card that you want to use. Position your iPhone within a few centimeters of the contactless reader. Wait for Done and a checkmark on the display.

If you’re asked to enter a PIN, hold your iPhone near the reader and place your finger on Touch ID. You might also need to sign a receipt or enter your ZIP code.

To pay in apps

When you see Apple Pay as a payment option, just hold your iPhone near the reader with your finger on Touch ID. A subtle vibration lets you know that your payment was successful.

You might need to enter a PIN, sign a receipt, or authorize with Face ID or Touch ID.

To pay on websites

You use apple pay to pay for items on websites in Safari on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac.

To pay with Apple Pay on a website:
1. Select Apple Pay at checkout.
2. Use Touch ID or enter your passcode on your iPhone or iPad, or double-click the side button and glance at your iPhone to authenticate with Face ID. On your Mac, select Allow when prompted.
3. Hold your iPhone near the contactless reader while keeping a finger on Touch ID, or place your watch next to the reader. On your Mac, continue to hold down the Touch ID button or click Continue on your iPhone or iPad. If asked, sign a receipt with Apple Pencil, then hold it near the reader to complete the transaction.

Troubleshooting Apple Pay

If you’re having trouble using Apple Pay, make sure that you’re using a supported device and that you’re signed in to iCloud. You also need to have a credit or debit card that’s compatible with Apple Pay. If you’re still having trouble, follow these steps.

If you can’t add a card

There are a few things you can check if you can’t add a card to Wallet.

First, make sure that you’re using the latest version of iOS or iPadOS, and that your device is compatible with Apple Pay.

If you’re using an iPhone 6 or later, double-click the Home button, then hold your iPhone near the contactless reader. Look for one of these symbols:
-If you see , it means that your iPhone isn’t connecting to the NFC reader. Restart your iPhone, then try again.
-If you see , it means that Apple Pay is turned off in Settings > Wallet & Apple Pay. To turn on Apple Pay, tap Settings > Wallet & Apple Pay, then turn on Use with Watch. You might need to enter your passcode or sign in with Touch ID or Face ID.
-If you see , verify that Wallet & Apple Pay are set up for your country or region. You use apple pay in stores, restaurants, taxis, kiosks, and many other places.
-If prompted, enter the four-digit security code for your credit or debit card.

If you can’use apple pay in stores

There might be a problem with the way your card is authorized. For example, you might need to contact your bank or credit union to find out if there are restrictions on how you can use your card.

If you’re trying to pay in a store, and the store accepts Apple Pay but your iPhone or iPad doesn’t have Touch ID or Face ID set up, you’ll be asked to enter your passcode instead. If you don’t know your passcode, you need to erase your device and set it up again. If you can’t remember your passcode, you’ll need to erase your device, which deletes all of your data and settings, including the passcode.

You can also try these steps:

– Make sure that Location Services is on for Wallet. You need Location Services to use Apple Pay in stores. To turn on Location Services for Wallet, open the Settings app, tap Privacy > Location Services > System Services, then turn on Wallet & Apple Pay.
– Check that Airplane Mode is off and that your device has a cellular or Wi-Fi connection. You need an active Internet connection to use Apple Pay in stores. If you’re using an iPhone 6 or later with iOS 11 or later and you see ” Searching… ” at the top of the screen when you try to pay in store, make sure that Wi-Fi Calling is on for your carrier.
– Restart your device and try again.
– Make sure that Date & Time are set correctly on your device. To check, open the Settings app, tap General > Date & Time.
– Update to the latest version of iOS or macOS, then try again.
– Make sure that 3D Touch is off if you have an iPhone 6s or later: Open the Settings app > Touch ID & Passcode > Allow Access When Locked > toggle off 3D Touch (if it’s turned on). Then restart your iPhone and try using Apple Pay again in stores.”

If you can’t use Apple Pay in apps or on websites

If you’re trying to use Apple Pay in an app or on a website and it’s not working, here are some things you can try:

– Make sure your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch has the latest version of iOS.
– Check that you’re using a supported device. Not all Apple devices can use Apple Pay.
– If you’re using an iPhone 6 or later, make sure that NFC is turned on in Settings > General > About. If you can’t see this option, NFC is turned on by default.
– If you’re using an iPhone 7 or later and you see Payment method declined in the confirmation alert, make sure that your card supports in-app or online purchases. Contact your bank or card issuer for help.
