How to Connect Your Apple Pencil to Your iPad Pro

If you’ve got apple pencil and an iPad Pro, you may be wondering how to connect the two so you start using them together. Here’s a quick guide on how to do just that.

Open settings app on your iPad Pro.

Open settings app on your iPad Pro.
Tap Bluetooth.
Put your Apple Pencil on the charging dock.
When you see the Bluetooth pairing request on your iPad Pro, tap Pair.

On your iPad Pro, tap the Settings icon. In the Settings menu, tap Bluetooth. On your Apple Pencil, flip open the cap and look for the Bluetooth pairing button near the tip of the pencil. Press and hold down this button for about two seconds. You will see the Bluetooth icon begin to flash on your Apple Pencil.

Once your Apple Pencil is flashing its Bluetooth icon, head back to the Bluetooth menu on your iPad Pro. You should see “Apple Pencil” listed as one of the available devices. Tap on it to initiate pairing.

Make sure that Bluetooth is turned on.

1. Tap the Settings icon on the Home screen, and then tap Bluetooth.
2. Make sure that Bluetooth is turned on.
3. Pair your Apple Pencil with your iPad Pro.
4. When you see the Pair button next to your Apple Pencil, tap it.

Tap the name of your Apple Pencil in the Devices list.

If you can’find your Devices list, make sure that Bluetooth is on.

Then tap the name of your Apple Pencil in the Devices list. If you’re asked to enter a PIN, use 0000.

If prompted, enter the passcode for your Apple Pencil.

To connect your Apple Pencil to your iPad Pro, remove the cap and plug it into the Lightning connector on your iPad Pro. Tap the Pair button. After you pair your Apple Pencil, it’ll stay paired until you restart your iPad, turn on Airplane Mode, or pair with another iPad.

If you have an Apple Pencil (1st generation), remove the cap and find the small, round button on its end. Press and hold this button for two seconds. The LED behind the button will flash white three times, then pulse white to indicate that your Apple Pencil is ready to pair. If you don’t see the LED flash, charge your Apple Pencil for 15 minutes and try again.

Now that your Apple pencil is turned on and ready to pair, make sure that Bluetooth is turned on your iPad Pro
Open settings app then tap “Bluetooth.” Look for “Apple Pencil” in the list of devices. If it’s not there, wait a few seconds and then check again.

Tap “Pair” next to “Apple Pencil.” If prompted for a passcode, enter 0000 (four zeros).

When the Apple Pencil is connected, the Devices list shows Connected next to the Apple Pencil’s name.

When the Apple Pencil is turned on and close to the iPad Pro, it will automatically connect. If it doesn’t connect, or if you want to pair it with a different iPad Pro, follow these steps:

1. Make sure that Bluetooth is turned on your iPad Pro:
Open the Settings app, then tap Bluetooth and make sure that Bluetooth is turned on.
2. Put your Apple Pencil on the charging dock that came with your iPad Pro. Don’t worry if the dock doesn’t have any lights—the Apple Pencil will start charging automatically as soon as it’s connected.
3. Wait for a few seconds until you see Connected next to your Apple Pencil’s name in the Devices list:

If you don’t see Connected next to your Apple Pencil’s name, make sure that your Apple Pencil is turned on by pressing and holding the button for a few seconds. You might also need to move your Apple Pencil closer to your iPad Pro.
