Introduction
If you have an Apple Pencil (1st or 2nd generation), you can use it with these iPad models:
iPad Pro 12.9-inch (3rd generation)
iPad Pro 11-inch

iPad mini (5th generation)
iPad Air (3rd generation)
To connect your Apple Pencil with your iPad, remove the cap and attach the Lightning connector. If your Apple Pencil won’t connect to your iPad, make sure the tips are clean and free of debris, and that there’s no damage, such as a bent connector.
What You Need
