Open settings app on apple tv
Select Video and Audio.
Under Audio Output, select Dolby Digital Out.
Connect your AirPods to your Apple TV.
Select Remotes and Devices.
On your Apple TV
select Settings, then General > Remotes and Devices, and finally Bluetooth.
If you don’t see Bluetooth in the Remotes and Devices menu, you may need to update your Apple TV software.
Select Bluetooth.
On your Apple TV, go to Settings > Remotes and Devices > Bluetooth.
Press and hold the center button on your Remote until the LED on your remote flashes. If you don’t have an apple remote, you can also go to Settings > System > Accessibility and use the Siri Remote apple tv remote app on your iOS device.
On your iOS device, go to Settings > Bluetooth, tap the next to your AirPods, then tap Forget This Device.
Open the lid of your AirPods case—with your AirPods inside—and hold it next to your Apple TV. If you see a popup on your Apple TV asking if you want to connect, just click OK.
Connecting your AirPods to your Apple TV is quick and easy. First, make sure that your AirPods are charged and in their case—with the lid open. Then, press and hold the button on the back of the case until you see the status light flash white.
Once your AirPods are ready, go to your Apple TV and open Settings. Under “Remotes and Devices,” select “Bluetooth.” Your AirPods should show up under “Other Devices.” Select them to connect, and you’re all set!
Select your AirPods in the Devices list.
If you see your AirPods in the Devices list, select them. If you don’t see your AirPods listed, make sure that they’re charged and turned on, then try again.

To connect your AirPods to your Apple TV, make sure that your AirPods are in their case and that both your Apple TV and your iOS device are signed in to iCloud with the apple id
Then follow these steps:
On your Apple TV, go to Settings > Remotes and Devices > Bluetooth.
On your iOS device, open the lid of your AirPods case—with your AirPods inside—and hold it next to your Apple TV. If you see the name of your AirPods next to Connected, you’re all set. If you don’t see this message, press and hold the setup button on the back of the case for 15 seconds.
If prompted, enter the four-digit code that appears on your Apple TV screen.
