-Pulse Ox: This measurement shows how efficiently hemoglobin, a protein in your red blood cells, is delivering oxygen to your cells. Research has shown that a low pulse ox reading might mean that you have a higher risk for some health conditions, such as sleep apnea or certain lung diseases.

When to measure your blood oxygen levels
You don’t need to take regular measurements of your blood oxygen levels unless you’re feeling unwell. If you have symptoms of COVID-19, such as a fever, chills, or difficulty breathing, take a measurement and contact your doctor.

How to measure your blood oxygen levels
To take a measurement, open the Blood Oxygen app on apple watch and wait for a reading. You can also ask Siri start a measurement.

Place your finger on the Digital Crown, and wait for the measurement to complete.

When you place your finger on the Digital Crown, apple watch uses pulse oximetry to measure the amount of oxygen in your blood. Pulse oximetry is a technique that uses changes in absorption of red and infrared light to measure the amount of oxygen saturating hemoglobin in the bloodstream.

This measurement is helpful for people with respiratory or heart conditions, and for anyone who wants to know their blood oxygen levels. Here’s how to check your blood oxygen levels on Apple Watch:

– Place your finger on the Digital Crown, and wait for the measurement to complete.
– Your blood oxygen saturation is shown as a percentage, with 100% indicating that all of your hemoglobin is saturated with oxygen.
– A reading below 95% may indicate that you have low blood oxygen levels, which can be a sign of respiratory or heart conditions. If you’re feeling short of breath, or if your reading is consistently below 95%, contact your doctor.
