Apple’s AirPods are the best selling truly wireless headphones on the market and for good reason. They’re extremely easy to use, have excellent sound quality, and are very comfortable to wear for long periods of time. One of the most impressive features of the AirPods is their battery life. Depending on how you use them, AirPods can last for up to five hours on a single charge.

When it comes to battery life, there are few headphones that can match the AirPods. If you use them for music listening, you can expect to get up to five hours of playback time on a single charge. If you’re using them for making phone calls or using them with Siri, you can expect up to three hours of talk time. And if you’re just using them for occasional use, like checking the time or changing a song, they can last up to 18 hours before needing to be recharged.

How long do AirPods last?

The length of time that AirPods last depends on various factors such as use, connectivity, and type of battery. With proper care, AirPods can last up to five years. Here’s a look at how long AirPods last and what you can do to extend their life.

When to expect battery degradation

While it’s certainly possible for AirPods to last for years without any issues, battery degradation is an inevitable reality for all lithium-ion batteries. Over time, the battery cells inside AirPods will slowly lose the ability to hold a charge, and as a result, you’ll see a noticeable decrease in battery life.

There’s no way to prevent battery degradation, but there are a few things you can do to slow it down. First and foremost, avoid exposing your AirPods to extreme temperatures. Hot weather can speed up the degradation process, so it’s best to keep them stored in a cool, dry place when not in use. Additionally, try to avoid letting your AirPods discharge all the way before recharging them; ideally, you should charge them up before they hit the 20% mark.

Of course, even with proper care, your AirPods’ battery life will eventually degrade to the point where they need to be replaced. Apple doesn’t currently offer any kind of battery replacement program for AirPods, so you’ll either need to buy a new pair or look into third-party options like iFixit’s $49 Battery Replacement Kit when that time comes.

How to check your AirPods battery

The first thing you’ll want to do is make sure that you have the latest version of iOS installed on your iPhone, as Apple has made some significant improvements to AirPods battery life in recent updates.

To check what version of iOS you have installed, go to Settings -> General -> About. The version number will be listed next to “Version”. If you’re not running the latest version of iOS, update your iPhone by going to Settings -> General -> Software Update.

Once you’ve verified that you’re running the latest version of iOS, open the Control Center on your iPhone (you can do this by swiping up from the bottom of the screen). Once the Control Center is open, find the battery icon in the top-right corner and tap on it. From here, you’ll be able to see how much charge your AirPods have left, as well as an estimate of how long they will last.

How to make your AirPods last longer

We’ve all been there. You pull your AirPods out of your case, ready to rock out to your favorite tunes, only to find that one of them is already dead. If you want to make your AirPods last longer, there are a few things you can do. In this article, we’ll give you some tips on how to make your AirPods last longer.

Use one at a time

To get the most out of your AirPods, it’s best to use them one at a time. This way, you’re only using one battery, and not two. You can still use both AirPods in stereo mode, but you’ll get better battery life if you use one at a time.

Put them in their case when you’re not using them

If you want your AirPods to last, make sure you put them back in their case when you’re not using them. It may seem obvious, but a lot of people leave their AirPods out, exposed to the elements, when they’re not in use.

And while the AirPods themselves are pretty durable, it’s the charging case that you really need to worry about. The case is made of plastic and can easily crack if it’s dropped. So, make sure you put your AirPods back in their case when you’re not using them.

The other thing to keep in mind is that the charging case is not weatherproof. So, if you’re going to be using your AirPods in a humid or wet environment, make sure you put them in a waterproof case.

Don’t leave them in hot places

Leaving your AirPods out in the sun or in a hot car could seriously damage them. The lithium-ion batteries inside can swell and potentially break the AirPods open. If that happens, your warranty probably won’t cover the damage.

Keep them away from water

Even though the AirPods were designed to be water resistant, it is still best to keep them away from water. Water and AirPods don’t mix well. If you’re caught in the rain or working out and get sweaty, make sure you dry your AirPods off as soon as possible.

If you accidentally drop your AirPods in water, don’t panic. Take them out of the water as soon as possible and let them dry completely before putting them back in your ears. If you can, try to remove the charging case from the equation altogether.

From our testing, we can conclude that the Apple AirPods will last around 5 hours on a single charge if you are playing music at 50% volume. If you are playing music at a higher volume, the battery life will be reduced. If you are making phone calls or using Siri for shorter periods of time, then the battery life will be increased. If you are using the AirPods for a long period of time without pausing in between, then the battery life will be significantly reduced.
