How to Use Apple Pay at Stores

Apple Pay is a great way to pay for things at stores without having to carry around cash or a credit card. Here’s how use apple pay at stores.

Open the Wallet app on your iPhone.

use apple pay at a retail location, you’ll need an iPhone 6 or later that’s running iOS 8.1 or later. You’ll also need to have a supported credit or debit card from a participating bank in your Wallet. Some stores and apps might also require that you have an iPhone 6 or later.

In stores, you use apple pay in apps, and on the web in Safari. When you’using apple pay in a store, restaurant, gas station, or other business, look for one of these symbols at checkout:

Select the card you’d like to use.

To select the card you’d like to use, double-click the side button, then glance at your iPhone to authenticate with Face ID or Touch ID. Or if you’re using an iPhone X or later and want to pay with a different device, triple-click the side button, then tap your desired card.

If you’re using an iPhone 8/8 Plus or earlier and want to pay with a different device, double-click the home button, then tap your desired card.

Hold your iPhone near the contactless reader.

Apple Pay is easy and works with the Apple devices you use every day. You can make secure purchases in stores, in apps, and online. And now send and receive money from friends and family right in Messages.

In stores
To pay at the register in stores, hold your iPhone near the contactless reader with your finger on Touch ID. Or double-click the side button, then glance at your iPhone to authenticate with Face ID or passcode. Learn about using Touch ID or Face ID for Apple Pay.

Some stores might have older payment terminals that require you to hold your iPhone 6s or later close to the contactless reader. If you’re unable to unlock your device or hold it close enough to the reader, try using a different form of payment. You can also ask the merchant if they have an NFC terminal.

Place your finger on Touch ID or enter your passcode.

When you’re ready to pay, hold your iPhone near the contactless reader with your finger on Touch ID. You might need to sign a receipt or enter your PIN.

If you’re paying apple watch double-click the side button and hold the display of apple watch within a few centimeters of the contactless reader. You will feel a gentle tap when your payment is successful.

Wait for Done and a checkmark to appear.

After you’ve paid, hold your iPhone near the contactless reader until you see Done and a checkmark on the display. You might need to enter a PIN or sign a receipt, depending on the store.

If you’re asked to confirm your payment, double-click the Side button, then hold the top of your iPhone within a few centimeters of the contactless reader until you see Done and a checkmark.
