Look at the back of your watch
If you’re not sure apple watch you have, you can easily find out by looking at the back of your watch. Just follow these simple steps:
If you see “Series 1, 2, 3, or 4” then you have an original Apple Watch
The apple watch was simply called “Apple Watch.” It was first released on April 24, 2015, and there were three variants: apple watch Sport, the Apple Watch, and the Apple Watch Edition. The Sport was made of anodized aluminum, the standard Watch had a stainless steel casing, while the Edition model was crafted from 18-karat gold.
Original Apple Watch models can be differentiated by their model numbers, which are printed on the back of the watch. If you see “Series 1, 2, 3, or 4” then you have an original Apple Watch.
To find your model number:
Open the Settings app on your watch.tap general > About. Look for the Model field.
If your model number is one of these then you have an original Apple Watch:
A1554 (38mm case)
A1803 (42mm case)
A1662 (38mm case)
A1757 (42mm case)
A1553 (38mm case)
A1802 (42mm case)
If you see “38mm” or “42mm” then you have an Apple Watch Sport
The first thing to check is the size. If you see “38mm” or “42mm” printed on the case back, it’s an Apple Watch Sport. If you don’t see a size printed on the case back, it might be an Apple Watch, Apple Watch Nike+, or Apple Watch Hermès.
Second, take a look at the model number printed on the case back. This can help you identify which Apple Watch you have.
Apple Watch Sport:
– Model number starts with “A1553”
– 38mm: Printed on the back of the watch and under the band
– 42mm: Printed on the back of the watch and under the band
Apple Watch (1st generation):
– Model number starts with “A1554”
– 38mm: Prints as “38 mm” on the back of the watch
– 42mm: Prints as “42 mm” on the back of the watch

If you see “Series 1, 2, or 3” and “Nike+” then you have an Apple Watch Nike+
The different models of Apple Watch are organized into series. The original Apple Watch was just called “Apple Watch.” The second series was called “Apple Watch Series 2.” And the third series is called “Apple Watch Series 3.”
The Nike+ models are a special edition of the Series 2 and 3. So, if you see “Series 1, 2, or 3” and “Nike+” then you have an Apple Watch Nike+.
If you see ” Hermès” then you have an Apple Watch Hermès
The Hermès name is on the dial of the watch face and on the band clasp. On cellular models, you’ll also see “Hermès” next to the carrier name at the top of the display when you’re connected to cellular.
You might see different Hermès bands and faces described as “Single Tour,” “Double Tour,” and “Double Buckle Cuff.” Here’s what those mean:
– Single Tour: A band that wraps around your wrist once.
– Double Tour: A band that wraps around your wrist twice.
– Double Buckle Cuff: A band with an extra strap that fastens with a buckle.
Look at the band
The best way to identify your Apple Watch is to look at the band. If you have a plastic band, you have an Apple Watch Sport. If you have a metal band, you have an Apple Watch. And if you have a leather band, you have an Apple Watch Edition.
If you see “Milanese Loop” then you have an Apple Watch
If you see “Milanese Loop” on the band, then you have an Apple Watch. If you see “Genuine Leather Loop” or “Link Bracelet”, then you have an Apple Watch Edition.
If you see “Sport Band” or “Woven Nylon” then you have an Apple Watch Sport
The Sport Band is made from a custom high-performance fluoroelastomer. It’s durable and strong, yet surprisingly soft. If you see “Classic Buckle” or “Leather Loop” then you have an Apple Watch Hermès
If you see “Classic Buckle” or “Leather Loop” on the band then you have an Apple Watch Hermès. If you see just “Buckle” or “Loop” then you don’t have an Hermès watch.
Look at the display
The first thing you’ll want to do to figure out which Apple Watch you have is to look at the display. If you have an Apple Watch Series 1, 2, or 3, the display will be made of Gorilla Glass. If you have an Apple Watch Series 4 or later, the display will be made of sapphire crystal.
If you see “S1P” then you have an Apple Watch
The Apple Watch comes in two different versions, the original model which is now referred to as Series 1, and the newer Series 2 which was released in 2016. If you’re not sure which model you have, it’s easy to find out. Just look at the back of your watch. If it says “Model S1P” then you have a Series 1 watch. If it says “Model S2P” then you have a Series 2 watch.
If you see “S2” then you have an Apple Watch Series 2
The Apple Watch Series 2 is the second-generation model of the Apple Watch. It was released on September 16, 2016, alongside the first-generation Apple Watch Series 1.
The Series 2 included several new features and improvement over the original Apple Watch. It featured a faster processor (the S2 SiP), a brighter display, built-in GPS, water resistance to 50 meters, and ran watchOS 3.
If you see “S2” on the back of your watch case, then you have an Apple Watch Series 2.
If you see “S3” then you have an Apple Watch Series 3
The S3 is the third generation of Apple Watch. It was released on September 22, 2017.
The S3 is available in two case sizes: 38mm and 42mm. It has a rectangular OLED Retina display with Force Touch, and is powered by the S3 system in a package (SiP). It has an improved rear heart rate sensor and an integrated altimeter. Models with cellular connectivity also have GPS and GLONASS.
The S3 is compatible with all straps that are compatible with the 38mm or 42mm case size.
The 38mm S3 has a list price of $329, and the 42mm S3 has a list price of $359.
Check your model number
Each Apple Watch model has a different model number, which you can use to identify your watch. The model number is on the back of your watch case. If you have apple watch series 3 (GPS + Cellular), you can find your model number on the back of your watch case. If you have an Apple Watch Series 3 (GPS), you can find your model number on the back of your watch case. If you have an Apple Watch Series 2 (GPS + Cellular), you can find your model number on the back of your watch case. If you have an Apple Watch Series 2 (GPS), you can find your model number on the back of your watch case.
If you see “A1554” then you have an Apple Watch
The original Apple Watch was first released in 2015 and featured a rectangular design with rounded edges. It came in two different case sizes, 38mm and 42mm, and had a digital crown on the right side that could be used to navigate the watch’s interface. The Watch also featured a heart rate monitor and was available in a number of different styles, including Sport, Edition, and Hermès.
In September of 2016, Apple released the second generation of the Watch which featured an updated design with a smaller bezel and a new dual-core processor. This version of the Watch was also available in two case sizes, 38mm and 42mm, but added a new color option, rose gold. In addition to the updates found in the second generation Watch, Apple also introduced new cellular models that could be used without an iPhone nearby.
The third generation of the Watch was released in September of 2017 and featured an updated design that was once again available in two case sizes, 38mm and 42mm. New for this generation was the addition of an LTE model that could be used without an iPhone nearby. In addition to the updated hardware, Apple also introduced a number of new software features with this release including fitness tracking and cellular calling.
If you see “A1661” or “A1758” then you have an Apple Watch Series 2
If you have an Apple Watch Series 2, you’ll see the model number “A1661” or “A1758” on the back of your watch. If you need help identifying your watch, use our visual guide.

When Apple released the Watch Series 2, it also updated the original Watch with a new processor and called it the “Series 1.” The model numbers for the Series 1 and 2 Watches are different; make sure to check yours before ordering parts or accessories.
The aluminum 38mm Case with White Sport Band that was introduced at Apple’s “Spring Forward” event is designated as “MM1A2LL/A.”
If you see “A1861” or “A1891” then you have an Apple Watch Series 3
If you see “A1861” or “A1891” on the back of your watch, you have an Apple Watch Series 3.
To find the model number, open the Settings app on your watch, then go to General > About.
If you see “A1954” then you have an Apple Watch Nike+
The first thing you need to do is find your model number. To do that, open watch app on your iPhone, then go to “My Watch > General > About.” Scroll down until you see the “Model” entry.
If you see “A1858,” “A1859,” “A1893,” or “A1954” then you have an Apple Watch Nike+. These models all feature GPS and cellular, as well as an exclusive Watch face and Nike Sport Bands.
If you see “A2092” or “A2093” then you have an Apple Watch Hermès
The model number of your Apple Watch is on the back of the device. To find the model number, look at the back of your watch:
Apple Watch Hermès (GPS + Cellular)
If you see “A2092” or “A2093” on the back of your watch, you have an Apple Watch Hermès (GPS + Cellular).
Apple Watch Nike+
If you see “A2092” or “A2093” on the back of your watch, you have an Apple Watch Nike+ (GPS + Cellular).
